Cadillac’s 3-Series rival, the ATS, is here, and while it does not have a diesel engine in its range to rival the Germans, yet, with the latest official information regarding its fuel efficiency, we say it does pretty well. The most efficient engine in the range is a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated unit, which puts out 202 hp. It returns 22 mpg (10.7 l/100 km) in the city and 33 mpg (7.1 l/100 km) on the highway, which equates to an average figure of 26 mpg (9.0 l/100km).
The next engine up is smaller in displacement, yet it gains a turbocharger, helping the power figure reach 272 hp. It returns 21 mpg (11.2 l/100km) in the city, and 31 mpg (7.6 l/100km) on the highway. The largest and least efficient engine in the range is the 3.6-liter V6, with 321 hp. It only averages 19 mph (12.4 l/100km) in town, and 28 mpg (8.4 l/100km) on the highway, equating to a 22 mpg (10.7 l/100km) average figure.
All models come equipped with an automatic six-speed gearbox as standard, driving the rear wheels. All-wheel drive is available at extra cost, and it dents the fuel efficiency by about 1 mpg.
