John Greenwood was a man of many talents, but most importantly, his race cars were outrageously cool, particularly fast, and over-the-top loud. The “Greenwood SuperVette” - based on the C3 and packing 750 HP - is one of those incredible machines, and Canepa Motorsports has recently restored COV002 to perfection.
The unique ‘Vettes that John made continue to fascinate enthusiasts, OEM, as well as the aftermarket. This gets us to Xeigen Supercars and the C8 Daytona, a widebody and performance package that pays tribute to John Greenwood and his creations.
“Through our Facebook page, we want you to witness the progress of this project from design to completion in 2021.” Rendered in two specifications, the pumped-out Corvette also takes inspiration from the C8.R racing car with the LT5 engine.
Center-lock wheels open the list of enhancements, along with bigger brake calipers, low-profile tires, a cowled hood even though we’re dealing with a mid-engine design, and a red tow hook integrated into the front bumper. A roof-mounted air intake, the most ginormous wing imaginable on the C8, extra-wide side skirts, and muscly fender flares are also featured, along with a deck spoiler for good measure.
Moving over to the rear, it comes as a surprise to see the exhaust system now featuring two outlets instead of four and the unmistakable finish of titanium. The aerodynamic diffuser also means business, but that’s not all there is to this build.
The renderings – one in matte gray and the other with the American flag’s colors and motorsport decals – also feature some sort of embroidery in the headrests. It’s hard to tell if that’s the Xeigen Supercars logo or C8 Daytona, but nevertheless, the tuning project should translate to a few interior changes as well.
Regarding what may be hiding under the hood, it’s too early to tell for sure. If the car is based on the Stingray Z51, then the LT2 small-block V8 could certainly use a pair of turbochargers or a good ol’ supercharger. Running methanol injection and E85 is another possibility, and naturally, a nitrous bottle should be considered too.
