The Bugatti Veyron dominated headlines in the car world for quite a number of years before being overshadowed by the current roster of hybrid track monsters. However, the Volkswagen Group's most luxurious brand plans to get back in the game with something that's just as groundbreaking and unique.
Speaking to Top Gear magazine editors, Walter de Silva said a successor to the Veyron is coming in early late 2015 or early 2016. Without going too much into detail, the VW Group head of design said it will be a true piece of art on wheels into which the company has put "a lot of effort in the technology".
We don't yet know the shape or the layout of the Veyron's successor. A production version of the Galibier sedan has been ruled out due to the response they got from current Bugatti owners.
Recent reports and our own spy photos have suggested the Veyron successor is going to be a hybrid, which could explain why de Silva says the car will "redefine the benchmarks.". The current most extreme versions of the hypercar have about 1,200 horsepower, so it's only natural to expect around 1,500 hp from the electrified versions. That would mean Bugatti is preparing a car with potentially more than twice the output of a Lamborghini Aventador and a top speed around 270 mph.
By Bugatti standards, the 10+ years of production for the Veyron aren't a lot. However, they are dealing with a stockpile of unsold cars which might prove to be a problem within the next year.
