The Formula 1 movie in which Brad Pitt stars as a pro driver has been officially shut down. The mega-budget production is the victim of the major SAG-AFTRA labor union strike in Hollywood.
More than 160,000 actors and people involved in movie production have gone on strike for the first time since 1980. That means that several films have had to shut down. Shooting will not resume before actors reach a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. A Writers Guild of America strike is going on simultaneously.

The strike focuses on issues regarding payment and use of artificial intelligence in movie production.

Ten days ago, Brad Pitt and Damson Idris attended the British Grand Prix. It wasn’t just rubbing shoulders with the star drivers and watching the race that Lando Norris won. They were meaning business themselves. The crew received a garage location for the filming. Two modified Formula 2 demo cars lined up on the grid for the formation lap of the actual Grand Prix.

The two actors also participated in the pre-race national anthem ceremonies alongside F1 stars Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The British driver is set to play a key role in the movie production. He will have a consultancy role, as part of his own recently established production company, Dawn Apollo Films.

"All filming is shut down for now," said a source close to the production, as reported by NBC. "Brad had really enjoyed himself. But he is definitely a very loyal member of the union."The movie production team has not released any official information with reference to the setback.

The upcoming Apple F1 movie is expected to have major impact on the sport, similar to the effects that the Netflix series Drive to Survive is having. Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali praised the quality of the production and is counting on the movie to elevate the sport to new levels of popularity.

The crew has received unprecedented access to the paddocks and even track during racing weekends. A mock 11th team garage, called APX GP, was built for the set. Team principals and drivers are fully supportive of the movie project as well.

The crew was planning to resume trackside filming at Zandvoort in August. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Production strike is going to cause a major delay on Joseph Kosinski’s F1 film, which is yet to be named. Kosinski is none other than the director of the blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick.

A rumored title is "Apex," with Brad Pitt playing Sonny Hayes, a previously retired F1 driver mentoring a rookie team-mate.

IMDb lists actor Damson Idris as a young driver and actress Kerry Condon as the team’s technical director in the upcoming movie.
