You don't land one of the biggest movie stars in the world (and successful producer in his own right) and not use his name and face to get even more interest in your highly-specialized movie. That's why the first teaser trailer for the upcoming F1 trailer is very Brad Pitt-centric, perhaps to the frustration of passionate F1 fans.
For the past couple of years, we've been hearing, reading, and seeing a lot of stories and leaked footage from the mysterious "Brad Pitt Formula One movie." It was so mysterious that, until last weekend, it didn't even have a proper official name, though reports online claimed it would go by Apex, because of the fictional Apex GP team that Brad Pitt takes over in the film.

Now officially called F1 but still shooting at real Formula 1 events across the world, the film also gets a full teaser trailer. F1 screened it at Silverstone GP, just hours after the title became official, and Warner Bros. released it worldwide across all platforms a few hours later. You will find it available below.

For such a hyped project and one filmed at real F1 events where cameras abound – as do eavesdroppers – there's still not much known about the plot. We know that Pitt stars as Sonny Hayes, an experienced F1 pilot brought back from retirement to helm the APXGP team and mentor an up and coming driver Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris).

Based on that alone, F1 sounds like a typical coming-of-age or maybe underdog story but tinted in the heavy drama, both on the circuit and outside of it, that is the norm with Formula One. That alone should suffice to put F1 fans' butts in the seats, but Warner Bros. is taking a more commercial approach with the first teaser.

That's why we're getting so many close-ups of Pitt's face, Pitt positively flirting with a woman that, for just a second there, looks startlingly like the wife of Red Bull boss Christian Horner (Geri of the Spice Girls herself), and Pitt in the driver's seat. There isn't much story to go with these shots, as one would expect from a teaser trailer, but we do learn that APXGP needs a car built "for combat" that may or may not throw safety rules out the window. It will probably do so only a little, if the film really aims for realism.

The choice for a trailer soundtrack is also unsurprising – almost to the point of being unoriginal, a tired cliché, and lame, as voices are saying online. We get Queen's We Will Rock You taking over the dialogue as wider shots zoom in on the APXGP car and let it play leading lady to Pitt's character. This is actually a Formula Two car disguised to look like an F1 machine for the production, and racing scenes were shot in real life, with Pitt at the wheel.

But as underwhelming as the choice for the title track might be, it's an efficient one, you have to admit. The way the roar of the engine takes over Brian May's iconic guitar riff and ultimately silences it is the stuff of movie dreams and quite possibly a guarantee that, at least in terms of tempo and cinematography, F1 will not disappoint. Whether it'll live up to the hype with storytelling or accuracy remains to be seen.

F1 also stars Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia, and Samson Kayo and is directed by Joseph Kosinski. It opens worldwide on June 25, 2025, and in the U.S. on June 27.
