Brabus makes the 900 Rocket, but that's based on a stretched Maybach, so it's not a driver's car. But this 850 with 50 hp less looks even more badass, especially when based on the S-Class Cabriolet.
It's both elegant and disgustingly powerful, making us glad that Mercedes ditched the CL-Class and decided to make a flagship convertible as well.
2016 has arguably been the year of the G500 4x4. But the Square wasn't as shocking when it came out as the S-Class Cabrio. Especially in person, this one looks like a return to the glory days of Mercs that seemed unattainable and out of this world.
Like every other Brabus 850 (almost), this starts as the S63 AMG, so it starts off with the 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. The big problem with this car didn't exist when Brabus finished the 850 kit. It's the GT C roadster that just came out. But from the tiny fortwo to these two, you can honestly say Brabus makes a cabrio for anybody... anybody with at least €25,000 to spend.
Anyway, the S63 Cabriolet has received plenty of black carbon fiber love from Brabus. At the front, you've got a sort of lip accent over the intake and an air splitter. The Brabus grille is cool too, plus it lights up at night, which is a nice touch.
Around the back, the trim is similar, although the diffuser requires lots of carbon. We've always loved those B-shaped exhaust tips, but they hide a little secret - not being connected to the engine. The real exhaust is right behind, and it sounds brutal.
Mind you, there aren't many engines that are cooler than this one. The cylinders have been re-bored, increasing the displacement to 6 liters and the output to 850 PS and 1450 Nm of torque, which is about ten smarts. Did we mention there's real gold under there?
Brabus did a few things with the interior, but it's nothing major. You've got new pedals, an illuminated sill design with the tuner's logo and carpets.
