Held every two years, the General Police Equipment Exhibition & Conference is Europe’s biggest industry-only special trade fair that showcases police equipment and security technology. This year, it will be taking place between September 9 and 11 in Leipzig.
BMW will be bringing its latest in the field, the Bavarian company being well known for its special purpose vehicles. Apart from the X5 Security Plus car that was already unveiled at the Moscow Auto Show the manufacturer will also unveil a couple of world premieres.

No less than seven emergency and security vehicles will be presented including the new BMW X3 LCI as a police car, the BMW X5 Security (VR4), the BMW 530d Sedan and two bikes, the BMW R 1200 RT and the BMW F 800 GT, both of them in police guise.

Unlike its Security Plus brother, the X5 Security model is compliant only with the VR4 protection standard but it does come with its own advantages. It was specifically designed so that it can carry a helicopter stretcher and is therefore the world’s first car capable of transporting a protectee quickly and safely to the hospital or a nearby air field in that way.

Another debut will be the BMW 530d equipped as an unmarked video pursuit vehicle. From the outside, the car looks basically stock, with very few hints that would offer a glimpse into what its real purpose is. If you’re a keen-eyed person, you’ll notice the small cameras mounted on the front and rear bumpers.

Step inside and you’ll be welcomed by the speed-measuring system installed by ProViDa that controls the aforementioned cameras, a digital video recorder and monitor installed next to the iDrive screen. Under the bonnet, the engine wasn’t modified in any way and is still making 258 HP and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. It may not seem like a lot but it’s enough to get what you need on camera and the pursuit units can take over from there, units like the two bikes introduced at the event, the R1200 RT and the F800 GT.

The former can be customized for special requirements and has riding modes that will help out in tough conditions. The liquid-cooled twin-cylinder boxer engine it uses develops 125 HP and 125 Nm of torque, plenty for a fast chase around the city.

As for the F800 GT, it uses a high-torque, two-in-line engine making 90 HP and 86 Nm of torque and can be turned into a police, customs, disaster relief and even military vehicle, depending on the situation at hand.
