For the first time in BMW's history, one of their SUVs won the acclaimed Golden Steering Wheel Award ("Goldenes Lenkrad"). We're talking, of course, about the new X5, a car that will start writing history once it reaches dealerships around the world on November 16.
The winners were picked out by 200,000 European voters and a jury made of experts, racing drivers, designers, technicians, editors and prominent testers. Dr. Norbert Reithofer and Dr. Herbert Diess accepted the prize at a festive gala in Berlin, yesterday.
The award has been handed out since 1976 to celebrate the most significant and convincing innovations in the automotive sector. Over the years, BMW received no less than 20 such awards and many more nominations.
