At the annual BMW press conference in Munich, Autonews talked to the company's sales chief Ina Robertson who revealed one small but important part of their future plans.
According to him, the highly anticipated X4 crossover will make its official debut next year and will target a completely different niche than the X3 it will be derived from. It will be sportier and more stylish, putting looks above practicality.
The X4 will be for the X3 what the X6 is for the X5. Of course, we already knew it was coming and expected it to be a Sports Activity Coupe, but the fact that Robertson says it's coming in 2014 is very significant.
Right now, we've seen absolutely no test prototypes, but sypshots of the X4 are likely just around the corner, considering how diligent BMW has always been with its testing cycles.
The X4 will be built exclusively in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where they make all the other X models except the X1 compact built in Leipzig, Germany.
