German automaker BMW has issued a recall for more than half a million cars in the United States and Canada over battery cable connector concern.
The recall was announced for the 1 Series coupes and convertibles manufactured between December 2007 through July 2011, the 3 Series sedans built between March 2007 and October 2011 and the 3 Series touring versions made between March 2007 and June 2011. A recall for the Z4 was also issued, but with a shorter time span, from march 2009 to june 2011. The warning covers a total number of 570,000 vehicles within US and Canada.
According to BMW, the issue is the terminal of the fuse box degrading over time, which can lead to a loss of electric power through connection breakage. This means the vehicle might unexpectedly stall, thus increasing crash risks.
The affected owners will be notified by BMW and battery cable connectors will be replaced and improved at the company's expense.
