German automaker BMW has issued a recall concerning 42,000 3 Series models built in 2002 and 2003 over airbag problems, adding to the massive recall which already included 3.4 million vehicles from five Japanese companies.
According to The Detroit News, BMW is not aware of any improper “deployments or injuries related to this issue” in any of the manufacturers automobiles. The faulty airbags, which might catch fire or injure passengers due to a defective part, will be replaced in BMW dealerships all over the USA.
The airbags were built by Japanese giant Takata Corporation, the same company that provides automotive parts for several automakers. Only six incidents were reported worldwide, with no injuries, but the malfunction has prompted a massive recall.
Toyota, Nissan, Honda and Mazda have recalled no less than 3.4 million vehicles, with the first two brands leading the pack with more than one million units each.
