A six years partnership between German manufacturer BMW and the US Olympic Committee (USOC) was signed today, with the carmaker to become the Official Mobility Partner of the sanctioning body until 2016. BMW will have the same status in relation to the USA Bobsled & Skeleton, US Speedskating, USA Swimming and USA Track & Field.
“As a company dedicated to joy, performance and efficiency, BMW Group is a fitting partner for the USOC, whose mission of achieving sustained competitive excellence and inspiring Americans dovetails perfectly with our own values,” Jack Pitney, BMW North America marketing vice president said in a statement.
Aside for the several million dollars to be spent as a result of the agreement, BMW will also provide USOC with technical expertise, fundraising opportunities and even help the Olympic team members train by using the carmaker's technologies and facilities.
BMW will also become partner of the 2012, 2014 and 2016 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams, and the 2011 and 2015 U.S. Pan American and Parapan American Teams. Team USA will be supported through dedicated programs.
“Sponsors are critical to the success of Team USA,” short track speedskater Apolo Anton Ohno added. “What's truly unique about BMW is their willingness to go beyond financial assistance and make available their engineers and technology experts to work with Team USA athletes and try to enhance their training programs."
Aside for the new agreement with USOC, BMW is also involved in the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the Fed Ex Cup. Its vehicles compete in the American Le Mans Series and it has recently won the America’s Cup with the BMW ORACLE Racing Team.
