Here we go again, people, the ever lasting debate on drag racing: can you defeat pedigree with tuning? It’s never going to end, if you ask me, and people’s choices are as wide as the Ganges, everyone having an opinion on the matter.
The drag race we’re about to watch here is perfect to be used as an example. Here we have a stock Ferrary 458 going up against a BMW E63 M6 tuned by ASR that has 750 HP at the crank, coming out of the 5-liter V10 engine under the bonnet.
So, looking over the numbers, the M6 should win it, right? That’s if the HP readings are correct. However, in tuning, you never actually know exactly how much power reaches the tarmac. Initially, the Bimmer had 500 ponies under the bonnet and a 50% power increase doesn’t come easy, most tuners bragging to deliver more performance than they actually do.
On the other hand, the Ferrari has the weight factor on its side, being nearly 500 kilos (1,100 lbs) lighter than the M6, has newer technology onboard but lacks 180 HP. Will that claimed extra power do the trick? Check out the video and let us know what you think!
