It seems that BMW is in a celebratory mood. After revealing the 30 Years M3 yesterday, another limited edition car is being presented in Japan of all places. It's called the M6 Celebration Edition Competition and from what we understand, it's the 6th model built for the 100th anniversary of the entire Bavarian brand.
We see the car as a paradise of M Performance parts, but there are a few things we don't get. For example, there will only be 13 units ever built, each with the steering wheel on the left side. In Japan?
The M6 is not a savage sportscar, more of a grand tourer. However, a little more power is bound to make things interesting. The M6 Celebration Edition Competition boasts a re-tuned 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that now produces 600 PS, 40 more than standard, as well as 700 Nm of twisting power (20 Nm more).
Is it faster? Yes, since the top speed has been lifted to 305 kilometers per hour and the 0 to 100 km/h sprint is dealt with in 3.9 seconds. From what we understand, this new-found freedom comes via the M Driver's Package.
The exterior is pleasantly covered in Austin Yellow via the BMW Individual catalog. 20-inch M light alloy wheels, grilles, door handles abd the side gills are painted black. Meanwhile, carbon fiber is used for the rear spoiler, diffuser and the mirrors.
Inside, the M6 is made to feel a little bit more special using an M Sport steering wheel that's smaller and comes with Alcantara trim. All the leather is black and trimmed in yellow stitching to match the exterior paint. Carbon fiber is used on the center console and to make you feel wealthy every time you reach for the gear shifter, not to shift anything, but just to put it in drive.
BMW Japan also boasts that the M6 Celebration Edition Competition offers exclusive door sills, a Bang & Olufsen high-end surround system with 16 speakers and dedicated settings for the suspension and steering. The cherry on the cake is a black chrome finish for the exhaust.
