The 1-Series M Coupe was one of the best received new cars BMW has made in a long time. Yet it came from flawed upbringing because it could never become a true M1 due to the overlap with the historic supercar.
That's about to change, since the 2-Series is the coming this year to replace the old 1-Series coupe and convertible. That model will be capable of becoming a true M in the real sense of the world.
Based on some company insider rumors, designer Dejan Hristov has created these renderings of what the M2 Convertible or Cabrio might look like. It's a good looking compact brute with plenty of tension in the body and strong character.
But M cars all about their drivetrains. The 1-Series M Coupe had a limited slip diff and a twin-turbo engine, the M135i which is the current compact flagship uses electronics to brake the wheels and mimic the LSD, and is powered by a single-turbo engine.
