Although we really don't know what's so surprising in seeing a new car buyer asking for winter tires since we're already in the cold season, BMW says the demand is remarkable especially in the UK, where more and more people are requiring this type of equipment.
"The demand we have seen for winter tires has been quite remarkable," BMW UK corporate communications director Graham Biggs said in Innsbruck according to just-auto.com. "We can fit [them] as a retrospective but more and more people buying new cars are specifying them with winter tires as well."
"There is a lot of misunderstanding about winter tires, but they are very sophisticated bits of kit," said Biggs. "In markets like Austria and Germany, it is illegal to drive with a summer tire in the winter."
This isn't the first time when BMW is deeply involved in winter-preparing programmes, as the carmaker recently announced the 2011 winter driving training, with several courses to be held around the world. The courses will basically offer those registered the opportunity to travel to various locations starting from January 2011 and learn how to control a car in extreme conditions. Of course, the vehicles used in the training are all wearing the BMW badge, but don't expect to see a BMW like any other to be handed to participants.
The BMW Snow Drift Training course for instance uses 430 hp M3 models, deployed in Solden, to teach drivers how to drift on snow and ice. The BMW snow training on the other hand, uses the same location to show people how to drive on snow and ice by using BMW X3, BMW 5 Series and BMW M3.
