With the new M3 and M4 bathing under neon light in Detroit at the 2014 NAIAS, the Convertible version is still being tested in the cold wilderness of Scandinavia. Our spy photographers caught up with it and snapped some up close pics.
Earlier today, the photos we had were of the car in motion but, as soon as it stopped, our friends stepped closer to take a better look. Unfortunately, the rear end was covered with snow so we can’t make out too many new details about it.
Compared to the Coupe, it’s obvious that the roof and rear quarter have a different design. The roofline has a more abrupt line towards the end while the boot lid seems a bit bigger on the drop-top.
As we’ve been getting used to by now, the M4 will keep the hard top just like its E93 predecessor, distancing itself from the M6 that uses a cloth version.
The engine will surely be the same as on the M3 and the Coupe, codenamed S55. It makes 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque and will be hooked up to a manual 6-speed gearbox as standard with an optional 7-speed DCT also available. Expect the Convertible M4 to be unveiled later this year.
