Back in 2012, BMW refreshed the Z4 with a slight Life Cycle Impulse facelift, to keep up with its competition. However, since the Z4 was already a great looking car, aesthetic changes were small, the big ones being done under the bonnet.
Thus we saw the sDrive18i introduced in various markets, as an entry-level roadster from BMW. Needless to say that as summertime kicked in, we all wanted to drive this car, to see just how important a couple of HP are.

CAR magazine stepped out and took this particular model out for a stroll and found out that the lack of power isn't that disturbing. With an 156 HP engine that also delivers 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque and a manual gearbox, this roadster has everything you need to be wearing a big smile on your face while driving it.

Sure, some might say that the steering isn't as precise as you'd like in a BMW and that feedback most times is missing but the car has other advantages that simply make you forget about those things, whilst the engineers are working on fixing them.

The fuel consumption numbers are exactly the same as its more powerful brothers that are using the same engine, the sDrive20i and sDrive28i and you might find that a bit disappointing but they are still good values at 26.4 mpg in the city (8.9 l/100km) and 42 mpg (5.6 l/100km) on the highway.

The car's ride is comfortable enough to be used on a daily basis, even with the 18 inch wheels the test car had, not to mention that extraordinary feeling you get once the roof is down.

Being careful with the options, you might actually get an amazing car for entry-level money and that is enticing, to say the least!
