BMW Motorsport has claimed its consecutive manufacturers' title since returning to the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, after Timo Glock captured his first season win at Hockenheimring, in the last race of this year's spell.
Despite losing both the drivers' and the teams' championship to Mike Rockenfeller and Audi Motorsport, BMW placed itself on top of the manufacturers' championship, ahead of both Audi and Mercedes-Benz. The Munich-based firm ended the season with 369 points, 22 more than Audi, while Mercedes-Benz gathered only 266 points.
All in all, BMW cars won five out of ten races, while Audi and Mercedes-Benz scored two successes each. Despite dominating the series as a manufacturer, BMW's wins were split among three teams, which was decisive in the teams' rankings, helping Rockefeller's Audi Sport Team Phoenix.
“That was an incredibly exciting finale to the season, with a fantastic outcome for us. We witnessed a sensational race from Timo Glock and BMW Team MTEK – it was hard to beat in terms of excitement. Timo showed his strong nerves to claim his first win and second podium of the year in his tenth DTM race: all in all it has been a great debut year for Timo," said Jens Marqurdt, director of BMW Motorsport.
