When it comes to the idea of an M-badged BMW 7 Series, enthusiasts’ opinions are split: some will tell you that this would be an excellent machine and that it was supposed to have arrived years ago, while others would tell you that this would be a sacrilege.
However, in the real world, it’s the sales that drive such decisions and since BMW has recently launched its M Performance range, placing M badges on cars that couldn’t even dream about this in the past, an M Performance 7 Series would be a logical step.
In a recent interview for Car&Driver magazine, Friedrich Nitschke, president of BMW M, said that the carmaker is seriously considering such a car, but didn’t offer any additional details on the matter.
However, Nitschke did respond to questions about M versions of the upcoming i3 hatchback and i8 hybrid sportscars, using a big “No” and explaining that the i sub-brand includes green cars, while M Gmbh handles “the most-efficient sporting cars”.
