BMW has previously announced they will bring the is going to show the ActiveHybrid 5, which was only recently been revealed, to the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show. It’s a hybrid version of the fresh 5-Series that’s powered by a mix between the 3.0-liter engine from the 535i with an electric motor and eight-speed transmission. Now, it looks like the will also show the future products of the i sub-brand at the Japanese venue. We are of course talking about the i3 and i8 concepts.
The BMW i8 Concept goes from 0 to 100 km/h in under five seconds and boasts fuel consumption of under 3 litres per 100 km. Its plug-in hybrid drive with a system output of 260 kW allows a range of up to 35 kilometers in electric mode.
Unlike the i8 we just showed you, which is a PHEV, the i3 is a pure electric vehicle with zero emissions and a range of 150 kilometers (a bit under 100 miles). However, it also has enough power to race a 2.0 TDI is you feel like it, thanks to a 125 kW electric motor and rear-wheel drive.
