BMW 5 Series GT to Be Priced at 55,200 Euros

The model hasn't arrived yet but rumors regarding its features, performances or pricing keep coming. The latest in this series is a speculation revealed by bmwblog.com which hints that the upcoming BMW 5 Series GT will be priced at around 55,200 euros in Germany. Obviously, this price tag is yet to be confirmed but more details are expected to be released this weekend.

55,200 euros for the Gran Turismo sounds indeed like a very big price but analyzing the whole range proves us that there's nothing strange in BMW's pricing strategy. The base BMW 530d Wagon is priced at approximately 49,500 euros in Germany (obviously depending on the configuration - engine, options and stuff like that) which means the Gran Turismo, which obviously packs a bunch of additions over the base model, is only around 6,000 euros more expensive than it.

According to the aforementioned source, the GT will be powered by a six-cylinder twin-turbo engine but performance figures are again yet to be unveiled. Furthermore, the top-of-the-line version will come equipped with a V8 twin-turbo powerplant, similar to the one found on the X6.

Just to give you an idea, the 4.4-liter configuration available on the X6 generates a maximum power of 406 hp (299 kW) between 5500 and 6400 rpm plus a maximum torque of 443 lb-ft between 1750 and 4500 lb-ft. The X6 jumps from naught to sixty in 5.4 seconds, with maximum speed rated at 155 mph (249 km/h).

Obviously, performance figures are likely to be slightly different on the 5 Series GT but we'll find this during the upcoming weekend as a full list of specification is projected to be released in a few days.
