The guys from Edmunds.com set out on a search to see what sports sedan is the best within the $45,000 (€34,800) price range. They chose the best 3 candidates to see which is which.
First up we have the reigning champion for nearly 30 years now: the BMW 3 Series. Its latest model, the F30 is worthy of carrying the number 3 on the boot lid and does everyone from Bavaria proud.
The model they had for the test was a 328i with M Sport package. The 245 HP engine was hooked up to an automatic 8-speed gearbox and, excepting the M package only had just another Premium option fitted on, taking its price tag up to $45,745.
The second car was the 2014 Lexus IS 250 F Sport, which came prepared with a 2.5-liter V6 engine that produces just 204 HP and 185 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque that was paired with an automatic 6-speed gearbox (the same engine offered on the IS since 2005).
The Cadillac ATS 2.0, as you already know, comes with a 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder unit that develops 272 HP, an impressive number. The gearbox was a 6-speed automatic and the options list was impressive for the $47,440 price tag.
Overall, the BMW is still king. The 0-60 mph (96 km/h) sprint of the Bimmer was almost a second faster than its competitors, the braking was more efficient, the 1/4 mile faster, and the fuel economy better.
