After being presented for the first time during the BMW-sponsored Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este two weeks ago, the 328 Hommage wonder on wheels is still turning heads. And now it turns eyeballs too, as the first official video presenting the concept was released.
Every once in while, at special events like the Concorso d'Eleganza, BMW brings to life new concepts, just to show that it can. The model, because of the car maker's involvement with the event, was not part of the competition, but merely a show car of might and awe.
The performance details of the model have not been released, but to be honest they count for little when looking at the model. Still, under the hood of the car lies three liter, six-cylinder engine, the body of the model is made carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and the model tips the scale at 780 kilos or 1,720 lbs.
Of course, being a BMW, and more precisely a modern day one, the car boasts impressive connectivity and infotainment features, starting with the gearshift point indicator and ending with the tripmaster .
“Hommage cars have a long tradition in the BMW Group. Based on our design philosophy “Rooted in history, moving forward in design,” they demonstrate the significance of history for the present. Even 75 years ago, the BMW 328 stood for sportiness and agility through lightweight construction. The BMW 328 Hommage Car pays tribute to this past and shows how BMW lightweight construction will develop. Carbon is the material of the future,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW design director.
