A while back, before the festivities of the New York International Auto Show even began, BMW said that it will be introducing its new diesel 3 Series on the North American market during the event. Now it's time to take a look at it.
The new 328d Bimmer will be the first model with a 4-cylinder diesel engine from the German company ever to be sold on American soil. The powerhouse under the bonnet will have 180 HP and 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) of torque. Mated to an automatic 8-speed transmission the car's combined fuel consumption will be around 37 mpg (6.3 l/100km).
The Sedan will be available with rear-wheel-drive at first and xDrive later on. The Touring version however, that will also be making its "diesel" debut on the US market this year, will only be available with the all-wheel-drive system.
All 3 variants will be available in US showrooms as 2014 models starting with this fall. The levels of performance and luxury expected from any BMW will be ensured with a wide range of options, the same that are currently available for the 328i.
