The idea of a hybrid Bentley had been on the table for quite a while and now CEO Dr. Wolfgang Schreiber has confirmed that the company is preparing to go all the way with such development, offering interesting details on the matter.
Talking to Auto Express, Schreiber said that the Bentley SUV is set to receive a hybrid powertrain in 2017, one year after it become available on the market. The SUV, which is expected to be presented in 2015, will use the next-generation VW Group platform, which will allow it to feature a profoundly engineered hybrid architecture.
What’s more, Bentley’s CEO confirmed that its entire range will receive hybrid versions. Nonetheless, he explained that these powertrains will probably arrive with the next generations of the cars.
Schreiber went on to explain that they’ve redesigned the car, as Bart Gerris, Bentley's Regional Director for Europe told us in our own Bentley SUV interview. Despite this, it appears that Bentley isn’t eager to show us a new concept, not after the poor reception of the EXP 9F concept, which arrived at Geneva 2012.
It’s now wonder that Bentley is thinking big in terms of expansion. After all, it’s just posted record 2013 sales that offer it the largest market share in the luxury sector.
