After BYD expressed its confidence that it will become the world's number one carmaker a long time ago, another Chinese entity comes in front of the media representatives to present its expectations. The name of the company is Beiqi Foton Motor and it wants to sell 4 million units by 2020.
Of course, the company has sketched an ambitious plan for the years to come and, if everything goes well, it should become a powerful carmaker in less than 10 years. Beiqi Foton Motor's plan includes seven projects comprising a plant with a total capacity of 100,000 heavy-duty trucks per year, an auto model plus a separate investment that would lead to the production of 200,000 heavy or light-duty trucks.
We really can't refrain ourselves from talking about BYD, the Chinese carmaker that said in 2009 that 2025 is the year when it will become the world's number one auto producer. Most people laughed but BYD is still confident this goal can be reached but, before becoming the number one carmaker in 2025, it wants to take the leading position in China by 2015.
"We have plenty of time to become China's top carmaker by 2015 with a complete and mature product line-up. I am sure we can achieve the target earlier than scheduled," Wang Jianjun, deputy general manager of BYD Auto Sales Co told the China Daily. "BYD was also making efforts to overtake Toyota to become the world's No 1 carmaker in 2025, with annual sales of over 10 million cars expected by that time," Wang said.
