AvtoVAZ to Supply Plastics for Nissan

The involvement of French manufacturer Renault with several Russian automakers is producing effects for Nissan as well, as the Japanese will soon become customers of the plastics manufacturing operations of AvtoVAZ.

The Russians have been expanding their production of plastic parts for some time, but only this week the company found a new partner. With the help of Renault, Nissan signed a deal with AvtoVAz which would give it access to such parts.

"We are keen to work with Russian suppliers producing goods [at] world level," said Nissan EVP Colin Dodge. "We believe AvtoVAZ has great potential to be the most effective Russian car manufacturer in Russia. And Nissan intends to actively cooperate with AvtoVAZ in order to achieve this goal."

On its end, AvtoVAZ thus becomes a supplier of parts for Lada, Renault and Nissan vehicles. Although the new contract is significant in size for a producer that barely lived through 2009, the financial details of the deal were not disclosed.

"This project is very important to us - we can achieve significant efficiency and more than 30 percent increase in productivity," said AvtoVAZ president Igor Komarov according to just-auto.com

"I hope this project will show what options AvtoVAZ has to increase the efficiency of other industries with technical assistance from our strategic partners. "

AvtoVAZ was one of the worst hit automaker in 2009, at the peak of the economic crisis. Thanks to a swift and determined intervention made by prime minister Vladimir Putin, the car maker was able to ink several deals with Renault and Nissan that kept it afloat during the hard times.
