Audi S1 Debuting in Paris

The hot hatch segment is about to get an exquisite new member at the upcoming Paris Auto Show, where Audi is expected to unveil the performance version of the A1, the eagerly anticipated S1.

Even though earlier reports indicated that the S1 will make its way to the public at next year’s Geneva Auto Show, it seems like Audi will bring the vehicle at Paris.

The S1 will be the first vehicle in Audi’s performance range that won’t use a quattro four-wheel drive system. Instead, the car will send the power to the road using the front wheels. Audi will fit the vehicle with an intelligent electronic system that is aimed at fighting understeer.

The vehicle will be powered by a 1.4 liter TSI powerplant, just like the Volkswagen Polo GTI. However, the unit is expected to come with a power premium over the current level of 180 hp. This will allow the S1 to deal with the 0 to 62 mph sprint in less than seven seconds and offer a top speed of more than 140 mph (225 km/h). The S1 will ride 15mm closer to the road compared to the standard A1, as it will be fitted with a performance suspension.

The Audi S1, which, by the way, isn’t going to be offered on the U.S. market, will have a price of EUR28,360.

autoevolution will be attending the 2010 Paris Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
