At least one of the brands which are part of the Volkswagen Group is doing its best to fulfill the targets established for it by the mother company. Audi, because it is the topic of our discussion here, has even managed to surpass that target, achieving a result which is the best in its history.
The car maker sold all over the world 1,092,400 cars in 2010, representing an increase of 15 percent over the previous year. Several other small records (227,938 units sold in China and over 100,000 units for the first time in the US) have also contributed to the strong results.
“We have set a historic sales record on the US-market, while achieving the best earnings in the United States in a long time,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, Audi member of the board of for Marketing and Sales.
“In the next few years we will bring our successful TDI clean diesel technology to the executive class: We will offer our US customers TDI engines also in the new generation of the Audi A6 and A8. This will significantly bolster our position in this segment.”
The best selling region for Audi has been, once again, Europe, where the bulk of the cars have been sold: 647,600. One country in Europe however, Spain, ranks at the opposite end of the chart, with 39,558 units sold in the entire year.
Now, with the largest investment ever for Audi already announced, hope for the future is even higher. Volkswagen is surely betting most of its money on Audi as being the key player to overtake Toyota as the number one manufacturer in the world.
