Audi R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI quattro Now Available

After the introduction of the 5.2 FSI quattro, a new R8 Spyder model is starting to be shipped to German dealerships, Audi announced today. The new model, fitted with a V8 engine, will be marketed under the Audi R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI quattro name and with prices starting at EUR121,000 (($147,831) for the base level variant.

Like the V10 model, this one has a lightweight cloth top with a fully automatic drive as well, while the body is an aluminum spaceframe with carbon fiber components.

The 4.2l V8 engine on the new new Audi R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI quattro is capable of developing 430 hp with a maximum torque of 317 lb-ft (430 Nm). That allows the Spyder to go from 0 to 62 mph to in 4.8 seconds and keep going to a top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h).

The Audi R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI quattro comes standard with a manual 6-speed transmission and an R tronic sequential manual gearbox (with paddle shifters) available as an option. According to Audi, fuel economy is 17 mpg (13.8 l/100km) for the European combined cycle when coupled with the R tronic transmission. A recuperation system that recovers energy during braking is also fitted as standard.

Interior highlights include the Bang & Olufsen sound system with 450 watts and the seatbelt microphone for the hands-free unit and the speech dialogue system that enables the driver to talk on the phone even when the top is down.

Visually, the R8 Spyder 4.2 FSI quattro comes with the single-frame painted in high-gloss black, unexposed gas cap of solid aluminum, LED headlights and standard 18 inch wheels.
