As far as the rumor mill is concerned, the Audi R8 e-tron is supposed to be canceled, but we're not so sure that's true any more. The car is to be featured in Iron Man 3 and it's been spotted testing in Spain, so maybe Audi will actually sell an R8 that's packed with electric motors and batteries.
The R8 e-tron recently set an impressive 8 minute 9 second lap of the Nurburgring. The Audi R8 is powered by two electric motors that combined offer sportscar performance: 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 4.6 seconds and a top speed that is normally limited to 200 km/h (124.27 mph), thanks to 313 hp of electric horsepower. The only problem is that Mercedes is also launching its electric monster, the SLS AMG E-CELL, which is a lot more powerful.
Up Your Spot also provided us with photos of the car taken in Spain. It's got no exhaust pipes or rear windshield, definitive proof it's the electric version we're dealing with.
Ah well, the world is filled with R8 fans, and we bet a good few of them would buy electric versions. It's an interesting car, but maybe Audi will want to add extra slide in the cosmetic department before asking people to pay twice as much for a car with no pistons.
