The 1/4-mile drag strip from Florida's Bradenton Motorsports Park is home to more races than one could count on a hot summer's day. Some are thrilling beyond belief, while others are less entertaining. Luckily, this time, we're witnessing something truly spectacular: a German-engineered Audi R8 supercar going against a legendary American purebred, the Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray.
During the first race, the Audi R8 was faster off the line than the Stingray, gaining an incredibly early advantage. It was so blisteringly fast, that it's hard to believe it was racing a C8 Corvette and not a Ford Focus.

The German supercar completed the quarter-mile in just 8.046 seconds with a staggering speed of 187.89 miles per hour or 302 kilometers per hour. If Audi had tried enough times, it might have gotten under eight seconds.

On the other side of the track, the Stingray wasn't too shabby either, crossing the finish line in 10.601 seconds, going at 121.04 miles per hour or 195 kph. In no shape or form is that bad. It just looked slow when compared to the R8.

Given the massive performance gap, the Audi saw no point in racing again, so it sought to face a worthier opponent: itself—or an identical twin, to be more precise. They decided to go for a 40 mph (64 kph) rolling race, not a drag race, although it would have been immensely fun to see how they performed down the 1/4-mile first.

Off they went, and wouldn't you know it, the R8 won! The loser scored 138.05 mph or 222 kph, while the fasted version did 184.40 mph or 297 kilometers per hour.

That's all the videographers from the "ImportRace" managed to catch from this race, but maybe we'll see more of the mighty (but extinct) Audi R8 in the future. God knows the Internet is overpouring with Corvette drag races, but that's not to say it's a bad thing by any means.

The two-generation Audi R8 had a good run for roughly 17 years. In 2024, the last model rolled off the production line of the Bollinger Hofe factory in Heilbronn, Germany, and headed to its final home, the Ingolstadt Museum.

They call it the Performance Quattro Edition, and it was dressed in Vega Yellow. More importantly, it rode into the sunset with its 5.2-liter V10 engine, producing 602 horsepower and 413 pound-feet (560 Nm) of torque.

All that power was put to good use via its 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, which propelled it from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and to a top speed of 205 mph or 330 kph. The last US customers that bought an R8 in 2023 paid starting from roughly $161,000.

On the other hand, the current-generation Vette is a triple threat: the $68,300 495-hp Stingray, the new $104,900 655-hp Corvette E-Ray, and last, but certainly not least, the $112,700 670-hp Vette Z06.
