Introduced in 2011 as Audi’s first-ever venture in the compact luxury crossover segment, the Q3 has been updated once in 2014, then a second time in 2015. For 2017, another update is in store, one that brings new, more modern details to the exterior.
For what it’s worth, the third and final update for the Audi Q3 will be produced for a year or so, maybe a year and a half. That’s because Audi is working on the second-gen Q3 as we speak, which is due in late 2017.
Slated to launch in Europe this fall, deliveries for the 2017 Audi Q3 will start late in the year. Pricing for the sport and design trim lines starts from 30,100 euros in Germany, while the sportied-up Q3 S line competition starts from 33,050 euros. As some of you might have noticed by now, these are trim levels and aesthetic packages. What’s even more suspicious is that Audi didn’t say a word about the entry-level Q3, which goes for 28,200 euros.
Whatever the situation, it’s a given few people go for the base model in the Audi Q3 lineup. These being said, what does the 2017 Audi Q3 S line bring new to the table? First and foremost, a diamond-pattern insert for the air inlets, which is a nod to hell-bent for leather, high-performance Audi RS models. There’s also a lot of glossy black on the radiator grille and on the air inlets, further emphasizing Audi’s high-performance seasoning.
Then there’s the Q3 design line. For this grade, Audi went for a more sophisticated look, with air inlets that are split horizontally and silver-finished underbody protection for the front and rear bumpers. But the truth of the matter is, the S line competition is the piece de resistance.
As an extension of the S line, the competition adds lots of black paint in areas such as the wheel arches, door trim strips, roof rails, exterior mirror housings, roof edge spoiler, and the window slot trim. The interior also happens to be just a little bit sportier than regular, thanks to sports seats wrapped in fabric and black leather, piano black inlays, stainless steel pedals, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and an aluminum-and-leather gear lever for manual models.
The 2017 Audi Q3 S line competition also plays ball in the dynamics department. As standard, this sporty-looking crossover comes with S line sport suspension, Audi drive select dynamic handling system, a driver information system, and 19-inch gloss-black wheels by Audi Sport.
Curiously enough, the S line competition can be had with any engine available for the Q3 crossover, including a run-of-the-mill turbo diesel mill.
