Audi has shared the first three teaser sketches of the Prologue Avant concept car which it wants to show at the Geneva Motor Show. Of course, we can't really get excited because we've actually seen these images a week ago, when two British magazines broke their embargo.
The Prologue Avant is so much more than just a simple concept. Everybody knows Audi is crazier about the Sportback rear end than making supercars, so this is likely to be a preview. Remember, the German firm doesn't even sell RS4 and RS6 as sedans – that's how much they like big trunks.
In addition, the Prologue is design chief Marc Lichte's first major project. So in Geneva, we're going to see him cut loose with his debut attempt at the the 5-door stretched body.
Yes, the Prologue Avant has two extra doors, but other changes have been made as well. For example, the front air intakes are completely different, more angular. The current Audis, like the TT and Q7, look great with their sharp lines. Some people say they are boring, but just look how well their design age against Bimmer and Merc.
All signs point towards Audi also introducing a new flagship model coming out under the A9 badge. Some reports indicate this will happen as early as 2017, but we think the next generations of the A4, A6 and A8, plus the upgraded SUV line, will eat up every financial or engineering resource Audi has for the next 2 years.
So what do you think, is this 600 horsepower super-Avant worth squeezing in, or have they got enough wagons already?
Update: the first photo of the rear 3/4 view has been released. It shows how traditional Sportback design has been combined for the first time with the shooting brake slope. Small tweaks have also been made to the taillights and exhaust tips.
