The roads in the UK will never be the same from Tuesday onwards, after Audi unleashed onto the streets the first R8 GT supercar. Delivered to a customer on the island, this first model is part of the very limited edition (only 333 units will be produced) of the car maker's iconic model.
The first R8 GT in particular comes painted in Phantom Black, but comes with the same engine that will go into the entire range: a monstrous 5.2l V10 that will develop 560 hp and propel the vehicle from naught to sixty two in 3.6 seconds. The top speed of model is rated at 320 km/h (198.84 mph).
The engine is paired to an R tronic transmission and Audi's proprietary
Using Audi's already infamous Space Frame, the model's skeleton is light enough to tip the scale at 210 kilograms (463 lb). Overall, because it uses carbon-fiber composites, the entire R8 GT weighs 1,525 kilograms (3,362 lb), 100 kilograms (220 lb) lighter than the Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro.
To set the car apart from lesser siblings, Audi fitted the R8 GT with several unique enhancements, including newly designed bumpers in CFC and bucket seats with a chassis of glass fiber-reinforced polymer.
As you might imagine, the price for such a car is not in everybody's reach. In Germany, the R8 GT is priced at EUR193,000, with slight price variations to be expected in the 23 countries (primarily in Europe, the United States and the Middle East) where the car is planned to sell. In the US, for instance, the model will retail from $196,800 (only 90 units will be shipped to the States).
