According to his latest statement, Spaniard Fernando Falco y Fernandez de Cordova will be backed for the president of the FIA Senate by the former WRC champion, while Singaporean Bernard Tay was nominated for the job of Deputy President for Mobility.
The two have been active members of the International Automobile Federation in recent years. Fernandez de Cordova is a member of both the FIA and the International Tourism Alliance (ITA), while also a high-ranked member of the Spanish Higher Council for traffic and road safety (Ministry of the Interior).
As far as Tay is concerned, the Asian official is well-known within the FIA for his active role in road safety, for which he supported several programmes through the last few years. His intense work on this topic got him a well-deserved position of president for FIA Region II (Asia and the Pacific) earlier this year.
Also, the 3rd and last partner for Vatanen will be none other than German Hermann Tomczyk, who was nominated as deputy president for motorsport. It wasn't such a long time ago that Tomczyk himself was linked with a run for the FIA presidency. Clearly the highest-profiled partner for Vatanen, the German official is a member of both the F1 Commission and the World Motor Sport Council, while also being very active in the Germany's ADAC and DMSB organizations.
“These cabinet members all have a long and proven track record in the FIA and in their respective countries. Together with them, we can bring about the necessary changes to make the FIA more transparent, more efficient and more effective and to increase the benefit for its members. Now, it is time for change and together we can achieve this,” said Vatanen, according to British magazine Autosport.
