Systems like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto aren’t exclusive to new-generation car models, as the aftermarket head unit (HU) industry provides us with plenty of options to install them on older models too.
And while installing a new unit inside a car isn’t rocket science, it’s way harder to actually upgrade the system using the same original screen frame and also retain the support for the rest of the equipment.
The 2015 Volkswagen Golf GTI here, for example, received exactly this upgrade, and as you can see for yourselves, everything looks like a factory-installed head unit. And the best of all is that nothing has been lost, and you still get support for the reverse camera that the owner uses for parking.

The manufacturer itself emphasizes this unit comes with “perfect system integration” for the Golf, and it includes a large 9-inch display with touch support, CarPlay and Android Auto support, as well as iGo Primo Nextgen navigation with TomTom maps.
Of course, this unit also supports an audio system upgrade with several tuning options, as well as the connection of a parking camera just like in the example above.
