1972 brought several changes to the Oldsmobile lineup, and the most notable concerned the 442. Sales went through the roof for Oldsmobile, and no longer offering the 442 as a separate model paid off.
The 442 was now a package available for Cutlass buyers, sporting mostly appearance and handling upgrades.

Finding a 1972 442 today isn't as easy as you'd think. Only 9,845 examples rolled off the assembly lines this year, and it's unclear how many are still around nowadays (the numbers are even smaller for the W-30 package, which was installed on fewer 442s).

Like in previous years, the 442 was a highly optioned model, sporting power brakes, power steering, air conditioning, power seats, power door locks, cruise control, and super stock wheels.

This 1972 442 is a great opportunity to own a real-deal model, especially considering it spent its entire life with the same family. This 442 is mostly original, albeit the paint it wears today is no longer the one sprayed by Olds before the car left the factory. The Baroque Gold finish is a professional job, and the photos show you won't find any dents or scratches.

Speaking of the metal's condition, this 442 comes in great shape. eBay seller spikelampro promises you won't have to deal with typical problems like rust and rot, and the owner says "the doors close like they did in 1972."

The interior is also in great shape, and everything is still original.

You can tell the car is in beautiful condition, and there's a good reason why this 442 won't require any fixes (aside from a heater core). The 442 was always put away in September, so it didn't have to struggle with bad weather, snow, and salt.

The engine under the hood is a 350 V8. The numbers match, and the V8 "runs excellent with no noises, leaks, or smoke." The car is ready for the road, but the owner says the buyer will have to install a pan gasket for the transmission. It's included in the sale, and a good mechanic should be able to deal with this quite easily.

A 1972 Oldsmobile 442 is typically a highly desirable classic, and I'm not surprised that this example is receiving so much attention on eBay. The seller posted it with a no-reserve auction, meaning whoever sends the top bid will take it home. The top offer today is $4,150, with five bids received in only a few hours online. The auction will end in six days, so I expect the price to go up significantly in the coming days.

You can find this 442 in Broad Brook, Connecticut, and you should be able to take it home on its wheels.
