Jeep, the legendary specialty 4x4 maker from America, plans to stay relevant and stand out in a market flooded with crossovers and SUVs – and they have a strategy for that.
Sometimes it takes a lot of cash to own an iconic Jeep – the Mopar Jeep Gladiator special edition is a mid-size pickup truck with a bespoke graphics package, dual-tone Katzkin leather seats, heavy-duty rock rails, and is limited to just 250 units mostly because it costs no less than $72,190.
Other times, it takes a lot of smartness to achieve big goals. The recently announced all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S is as aerodynamic as the original Toyota Prius, thanks mostly to the tricks of the hidden rear wing. As such, it squeezes a range of more than 300 miles on a charge and is also the slipperiest Jeep ever made. That's why it also looks so sleek, of course.
Curiously, while it boasts 600 horsepower and is quicker to 60 mph (in 3.4 seconds) than the iconic 707-horsepower Hellcat-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, the company was quick to announce a Wagoneer S Trailhawk concept to give us hope that Jeep has an off-road future in the EV era. With its sleek looks, though, as well as a starting price of $72k, you immediately see it as more of a 'mall crawler' rather than an off-road expert that can bash dunes and crawl hard rocks, right?
Well, it might be able to do both – though only if Jeep decides first to put the Trailhawk prototype into series production and secondly if it pays attention to the rumor mill and the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. The latter, represented by Nikita Chuicko, the virtual artist better known as kelsonik on social media, thinks that now is the right CGI time to make a feisty Jeep Wagoneer S. As such, with a few digital touches, meet the hypothetical Jeep Wagoneer SRT.
As far as we can tell, the virtual changes are pretty extensive. There's a completely different front fascia underneath the seven-slot grille with additional vents in the bumper and modified central and lateral intakes, and all the black plastic bits and pieces are now the same shade as the body. The look is more aggressive, the wheels feel bigger, and the ride seems lowered, but there's no clue what's under the hood.
Well, if you ask us, since the regular Jeep Wagoneer S will go head to head with the Tesla Model Y Performance, among others, the hypothetical Jeep Wagoneer SRT might seek to enact revenge for the legacy automakers on the 1,020-horsepower Tesla Model X Plaid, and thus Stellantis might try to bring down two EV birds with one Wagoneer stone. What do you think?
