There is no denying that Kia, along with Hyundai, are among the experimentalists of the automotive industry – alongside BMW, of course.
The Bavarian automaker, unfortunately, has a disjointed vision of its recent design – aside from being wacky or downright quirky, many of its stylings don't relate to each other. For example, the XM and X7 LCI plus the 7 Series all have split headlights, but the rest of the range doesn't. Instead, the M2 looks like it was carved out of Minecraft, the 4 Series plus M3 and M4 feel as if they are in Bram Stocker's Dracula novel with double-coffin kidney grilles, and the all-new X2 also has a mind of its own.
Hyundai and Kia, on the other hand, continuously innovate across their lineups, and they're in the midst of yet another design reinvention. However, theirs feels quite organic. Let's take Kia for example – the range starts with the 2024 Picanto, and if we switch to America, there's the refreshed Sorento family, the EV9 three-row all-electric crossover SUV, and even the Carnival minivan all sharing the same novel design traits.
The passenger cars, too, have this approach – including the K5 patriarch and the all-new K4. Speaking of the more compact 2025 Kia K4, this one is a new nameplate coming to replace both the cheap Forte (K3) as well as the Cerato. The all-new, first-ever K4 will be assembled in Mexico's Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, at KMMX and was introduced at the 2024 New York International Auto Show back in March as a four-door sedan but also a five-door hatchback.
Not everyone will appreciate its design, perhaps, but most likely, the majority will easily recognize it as part of the new wave of Kia models, not as something else. This is the brand's "Opposites United" design language, and the company decided that quirky is the right thing to do – so the K4 sedan actually has fastback styling, whereas the Hatchback is more like a Shooting Brake than anything else.
Well, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators also likes to keep it tidy and clean – or maybe just a little bit messy, so this virtual artist, better known as Theottle on social media, has recently resorted to CGI slicing and dicing the Kia K4 into a sporty, veritable station wagon starting from the normal Kia K4 'sedan' and finishing strong with a practical, boxy – yet dynamic look.
It keeps the hidden rear door handles, so it would be funny if people asked if this was a very long three-door shooting brake, but it also comes with a more cavernous interior – especially behind the driver and front passenger. As for the technical details, there are none – but we presume that, if ever real, it would simply use all the goodies from the K4 sedan and hatchback. So, what do you think?
