All-New 2025 Ford Capri Gets Virtually 'Fixed,' But the Resulting Coupe Still Has EV Power

The last time we heard anything about two-door models, automakers were killing off nameplates left and right due to ever-slower deliveries.
In America, the situation is dire – even the Mazda MX-5 Miata sales have dropped tremendously, by more than 27%, during the first half of the year from 5,513 examples to 4,004 units. And it’s not like there were hundreds of thousands of them delivered every year. Now, as Audi prepares the 2025 model year lineup for the United States market, it has quietly dropped all coupe and convertible models, including the RS 5, from its local range.

As such, it is no wonder that America’s trio of Detroit automakers don’t care too much about passenger cars anymore – GM will only have the C8 Chevy Corvette in production soon as the Malibu mid-size sedan will be dropped at the end of the current model year. Ford rocks solely the 2024 Mustang range, and even that one includes a CUV, the Mustang Mach-E. As for Stellantis, Chrysler has the Pacifica and Dodge will start sales of the eighth generation Charger in two-door and four-door formats.

So, when Ford officially revealed the reborn Capri – originally a beloved fastback coupe, the equivalent of the American Mustang but for Europe – nobody was surprised that the Blue Oval’s designers and engineers have turned it into a crossover SUV. It’s a coupe-SUV, actually, because the regular compact CUV is the all-new Explorer Electric. They’re twins, of course, and both are using underpinnings from Volkswagen AG’s MEB architecture, just like the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 plus many other models from Audi, Skoda, or Cupra.

Anyway, a lot of voices also raised concerns about the styling after initially disapproving of the nameplate’s rebirth as a crossover model. No worries, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators has a solution, as always. More precisely, this virtual artist, better known as Theottle on social media, has recently resorted to CGI slicing and dicing the 2025 Ford Capri EV back to a two-door coupe in his latest behind-the-scenes making-of video, which is embedded below.

For size and reference, the pixel master used the premium Audi A5 Coupe and then he reskinned the fresh Capri on top of the S5 version. It was quite long and arduous work, even if everything is compressed into a four-minute video. At the end of the CGI workday, the result was still unsatisfactory from the designer’s standpoint – even when turned back to a traditional two-door coupe format, the author still thinks that “like the Capri crossover, this looks bland and bulky.”

However, some fans do not even care about that – everything that matters is the fact their beloved Capri nameplate reverted to a traditional body form, even if only across the parallel universes of vehicular CGI.
