German automaker Audi has no plans to sell it’s all-electric R8 e-tron supercar, a company representative told Autocar.
Built in only 10 examples so far, the electric R8 will be used exclusively for internal testing and developing after Audi reportedly concluded that the vehicle is not viable for series production.
Powered by two electric motors that take their juice from a lithium-ion battery, the Audi R8 e-tron has a range of about 133 miles (214 kilometers). Top speed is electronically limited at 124 mph (200 km/h), while acceleration from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) can be achieved in 4.2 seconds.
The all-electric Audi R8 e-tron was initially scheduled to go into production in early 2013, but the German company quoted high battery costs when it decided to halt the project.
