Alguersuari: No Friendships in Formula One!

We're sure you've heard plenty of stories about drivers inside the Formula One paddock being poker buddies or close friends, or some other things like that. And we're not to argue the fact that they do get along with each other. Only newcomer Jaime Alguersuari seems to bring a whole new “behind the scenes” view of the F1 paddock in his most recent interview with DT magazine.

According to the aforementioned publication, the Spaniard revealed that the F1 paddock is no place for making friendships and confirmed that each driver is competing for himself in the series. Nobody helps nobody and the atmosphere inside the garage is a cold one, said the Spanish teenager.

“The thing that surprised me the most, plain and simple, is the fact that there are no friends in F1. Every day you live with the constant feeling of being uncomfortable. The drivers that are dreaming of entering Formula One want their chance, whereas the ones that are already here put themselves before everybody else,” said Alguersuari.

He also emphasized the importance of the team in one's form, as the rookie drivers live with the constant feeling of uncertainty even when they do score a good result.

“We always know that the team asks of you more than they initially tell you. But you have to exceed the expectations of the ones that have put their trust in you, and prove wrong to the ones that don't want you to succeed.”

Alguersuari revealed that Fernando Alonso has been the only driver to show his support towards him during the debut race in Hungary, and admitted that the 2-time world champion is the one he respects the most from the entire F1 paddock.

“Fernando has been, from my very first race in Hungary, the only guy who showed me unconditional support. I admire him deeply and I think he is the best driver in his generation. I hope one day I can win just like him, if the car will allow me to,” concluded the Spaniard.
