Dodge's plans to replace the Challenger with a Barracuda, thus reviving the famous musclecar manufactured between 1964 and 1974, are official for quite a while, with the new model set to arrive in 2015.
However, it looks like the Alfa Romeo-based muscle car will be delayed, with Dodge thinking that the current Challenger is far from getting old enough to be replaced.
According to MotorTrend, "the new Barracuda will share its platform architecture with an all-new 5 Series-sized Alfa Romeo sedan that will be a key car for the relaunch of the Alfa brand in the U.S". The respective sedan is set to be launched in the US "by 2016", but both cars "may have been pushed back" by Fiat.
In other related news, Dodge also plans to offer a beefed up version of the Challenger SRT8 to rival Chevrolet's new Camaro Z/28.
Editor's note: An Alfa Romeo-based SRT is such a sad story for the musclecar world. Chrysler shouldn't forget that the Barracuda was a Plymouth, and Plymouth is no more...
