When Alfa Romeo started production of the 4C sports car in 2013, everyone with a passion for the Italian brand had a question to ask: Are 240 PS (237 HP) enough to make the 4C fun to drive? In a nutshell, yes. With a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time of 4.5 seconds, it’s also as quick as a wink. But in the world of tuning, enough power doesn't cut the mustard.
Cue Pogea Racing, a German-based outfit with a passion for tuning Alfa Romeo models and the Abarth 500. What Pogea Racing created this time around is the 4C.002 Centurion, also known as an Alfa Romeo 4C on steroids. In terms of output, you’re looking at 314 PS (310 horsepower) and 336 lb-ft (455 Nm) of rear-wheel-drive get-up-and-go. And that’s a lot of oomph for a two-seater that tips the scales at just over 895 kg (1,973 lbs) in European specification.
Other than the increase in output, Pogea Racing engineers optimized the TCT Twin Clutch transmission of the Alfa Romeo 4C to change gears 55 percent quicker than what’s possible as standard. The result of the overall mod? 3.8 seconds to 100 km/h (62 mph) and a scarcely believable 305 km/h (189 mph) top end.
As if these numbers were not enough to kick our petrolhead senses into overdrive, the Pogea Racing Alfa Romeo 4C.002 Centurion also boasts lowering springs. 18-inch front and 19-inch rear forged XCUT alloy wheels are also on the menu, shod in sticky 225/40 ZR and 265/30 ZR Michelin rubber.
The go-faster appeal of this Italian beauty with the German touch is enhanced by a lightweight battery, steel braided brake lines, and a set of high-performance brake pads. As for the carbon fiber body kit, the front bumper, diffuser, and rear wing work together to generate an extra 35 kilograms (77 pounds) of downforce. The added downforce pushes on the rear axle from 160 km/h (99 mph) for added stability.
According to the German-based tuning company, only ten examples of the Pogea Racing Alfa Romeo 4C.002 Centurion will ever be produced. The asking price for a breed as rare and potent as this one? That’ll be €79,950 ($87,485), thank you!
But then again, deep down in our souls we know that there’s no replacement for displacement. As such, we have to ask Alfa Romeo: Could you offer the 4C with an engine that displaces more than 1.75 liters? The 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 is overkill for such a small car, but the Giulia’s 2.0-liter GME T4 turbo with 280 PS (276 horsepower) is an adequate proposition.
