To be honest, we don’t really believe anything we read about Alfa Romeo these days. Their flagship sedan was supposed to be RWD, and now it’s supposed to be FWD. The US market launch of the brand was supposed to take place in 2013, but now it looks like it’s going to be at least a year late, and to top it all off, they only offer two overpriced hatchbacks right now.
The model that was supposed to spearhead the US offensive, the 4C has been delated in early 2014, but the good news is there’s a 4C Roadster following it a year after that, according to a report from UK magazine Autocar.
Early signs are encouraging, as a company called Dallara was responsible for the early development of the 4C. Alfa Romeo hasn’t made a decent handling car in a while, so we’re glad to hear they put a company that worked on the KTM X-Bow and Bugatti Veyron in charge.
However, since then the 4C project has moved to a team headed by Fiat engineering chief Mauro Pierallini.
The coupe should cost somewhere in the region of €45,000 ($55,000) and will be powered by what Alfa Romeo themselves revealed to be a 300 horsepower 1.8-liter turbo engine.
