American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) is that off-road-focused company that helps GMC make AT4X models (Canyon, Sierra, Sierra HD) slightly cooler in AEV Edition form. But it also makes its own turnkey off-road vehicle packages, primarily based on Stellantis assets like the Jeep Wrangler or Ram trucks.
Thus, meet the Ram 3500-based AEV Prospector XL, a heavy-duty pickup truck that can travel to the far side of the world and back due to its second nature as an "ultimate vehicle for backcountry excursions and long hauls off the grid." Usually, the modification package includes perks like the AEV stamped steel front bumper with or without a 16.5 winch, a new HD rear bumper, a three-inch lift for the DualSport RT suspension system, 40-inch all-terrain tires, and many more mods needed to "maximize the off-road capability of the Ram 2500 and 3500."

Basically, AEV promises this is the "ultimate adventure vehicle." However, we haven't seen it able to stay in the wilderness and accommodate those traveling alongside it – until now. Remember TruckHouse, a company that fused the two main goals of its entrepreneurship – trucks plus houses. The result was a camper pickup, and this relative newcomer on the overlanding market made a name for itself around two years ago when they started their quest for adventurous glory with the TruckHouse BCT rig, which was based on the best-selling Toyota Tacoma mid-size pickup truck.

Now they're at the far end of the spectrum with the introduction of the AEV TruckHouse BCR, which is "a new ground-up design with more capacity and an even higher level of refinement" designed in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles based on their AEV Prospector XL Ram 3500 cab-chassis pickup truck. Production is set to commence officially next winter, so there is enough time to save all the greenbacks needed to secure your unit and start planning 2025's overlanding road trips. For now, let us see if the $10,000 refundable deposit for a pre-order is worth the trouble.

According to TruckHouse, their new BCR camper has a vacuum-infused monocoque 'house' mated to the truck chassis via "a first of its kind carbon fiber reinforced torsion free mounting system," uses an aerospace-grade carbon fiber monocoque shell, and will help the camper be more efficient thanks to a patent-pending HiPR Foil aerodynamic system that controls "the air spilling off the sides of the cabover," and is a complete off-grid, four-season expedition vehicle. By the way, the highlights include 270-degree visibility from inside the camper, a U-shaped dinette at the rear, an interior standing height of 6'6", a lithium battery bank, Starlink connectivity, plus a fully-equipped galley.

The space, according to the partners, is enough to accommodate four adults, and there's also a choice of three types of toilet systems: cassette, dry flush, or composting; just in case you were afraid of spending the night out in the wilderness when needing to address nature's calling!
