The 2025 Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo is an all-electric wagon (woohoo!) that aims to blend luxury, power, practicality, and zero-tailpipe emission mobility. I am inclined to say that the German marque succeeded. However, as you might already know, for an EV to be great, it needs more than just comfy seats, high-res screens, a well-insulated cabin, a big battery, and (at least) two powerful motors.
So, what better way to figure out if the refreshed Taycan Sport Turismo is up to the challenge is there than to verify its credentials at home, in Germany? That's what Kyle from Out Spec Reviews did.
He got his hands on a Taycan that's yet to land stateside – the wagon without plastic cladding. Fret not; if you really want the increased luggage space, the Cross Turismo is available in the US. But if you don't want that one, just wait. It's rumored that the Sport Turismo will eventually come to America.

The press unit tested on the Autobahn was quite well-equipped. For example, it has the brand-new Active Ride suspension system and the electrochromic glass roof. Both are pricey options, but those are the choices presented to a Porsche customer. The Stuttgart-based brand wants to elevate your ownership experience. Otherwise, it would have put on sale a Model 3 Performance with a different body.

The all-wheel-drive e-wagon boasts a 97 kWh usable (105 kWh gross) NMC battery, which, when full, should be good for around 334 miles (537 kilometers). Porsche also offers customers the choice to "downgrade" to a smaller 89-kWh gross high-voltage energy storage unit. By not ticking the Performance Battery Plus option box, you save $5,570.

But you shouldn't think about doing that if you want your posh EV to take you places without range anxiety being a part of almost every trip that takes you a bit farther from home.

The right settings

The driver wanted to make sure he could use every electron available, so he put the EV in Range Mode (Eco Mode) and chose the lowest setting for the suspension system to help avoid extra air turbulences.

The A/C was set on ECO and remained active only for the driver for the same reason.

The YouTuber also set regenerative power on auto to prioritize coasting. Porsche's EVs do not have the one-pedal driving feature. The Taycan's braking system blends regenerative and friction braking. The calipers push on the disk only when the driver needs extra stopping power. The whole idea behind the system is to allow the owner to engage with the car, and since Porsche owners love driving, that implementation makes sense.

Two other important tidbits are that the Taycan rode on 21-inch aero wheels, and the outside temperature was 70 F (21 C) at the start. It gradually dropped to 61 F (16 C). Outside conditions matter for most EVs on sale today. If it's too hot or too cold, the maximum range possible is impacted.

A casual, yet important journey

The initial estimation was 306 mi (493 km) of range at 100% state of charge (SoC), but the number dropped quickly to 295 mi (475 km) as the driver accelerated to reach the targeted 70 mph (113 kph) on the German highway.

Maintaining a steady speed, the first quarter of the battery helped the driver cover a distance of about 96 miles (154 km). Half of the high-voltage energy storage unit was emptied to drive 175 mi (281 km). Another 25 percent was used to add another 73 mi (117 km) to the total distance traveled.

So, the dual-motor Taycan 4S Sport Turismo used 75 percent of the battery to go 247 miles (398 km). That's not as good as the rear-wheel-drive prototype sedan we saw testing a couple of months ago. That vehicle had over 19,000 miles on the odo and still managed to drive 358 miles with 75 percent of the battery at an average speed of 51 mph (82 kph).

In the end, the non-lifted e-wagon covered a distance of 311 mi (501 km) at an average speed of 68 mph (109 kph) using 99 percent of the battery. That's a bit disappointing because it's not much different from what the previous GTS version was capable of.

The Taycan 4S in sedan form has a curb weight of 4,979 lb, while the wagon version is rated at lb 5,015 lb (2,275 kg). There's not much of a difference between them. There's nothing there to indicate that the dual-motor Sport Turismo should be less efficient than its used sedan sibling.

We need to look elsewhere, then. That's why the main culprits must be the aerodynamic coefficient and the higher average speed. As conventional cars do, EVs also consume more energy to go faster.

Great news!

But there's an upside to all this: if you really need more range, the EV can charge very, very fast. Pick a 350-kW DC fast charger, plug in, and you'll see why this EV is so capable.

In about five minutes, the 2025 Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo took its high-voltage battery from one percent to 25 percent SoC in around five minutes without preconditioning. The driver kept the EV plugged in and had to wait only 38 minutes to reach a 96 percent SoC. That's the beauty of the 800V architecture and the infrastructure to support it for you.

In the end, the refreshed Taycan Sport Turismo is a good, luxurious EV. Is it impressive? Well, yes. Traveling at 70 mph isn't going to be an efficient drive. So, with today's battery technology, the Taycan in wagon form performs well.

But the best thing about all this is that Porsche will surely revolutionize the next-gen Taycan. It's already good, but it can be much better. That's why we can't recommend anyone spend over $100,000 on such an EV. The cool suspension alone is about 10 percent of the vehicle's price. In a couple of years, the facelifted Taycan will be worth half of what the customer originally paid for it.
