Although I don't have kids, I'm intrigued by families who choose to live and travel in tiny homes on wheels. However, you need a special setup to do so. And that's what I'm discussing today: a rig ready to comfortably accommodate a family of four.
At the most basic level, a family-friendly camper van should be able to seat and sleep the entire family and ideally have a well-equipped kitchen and a bathroom. Well, the mobile home I'm checking out today ticks all those boxes and more.

What we have here is an AWD 2024 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with a 170" wheelbase. It was converted by ActiVan, a Reno, Nevada-based company specializing in premium Sprinter and Ford Transit conversions.

I've featured some of ActiVan's projects here on autoevolution. Considering the company has built a camper van that can accommodate a whopping total of six people, making one that houses four people should be no problem.

When opting for ActiVan's services, you'll have to choose between many available floor plans. Then, like with many other professional conversion companies, you can further personalize your rig to fit your wants and needs.

This camper van boasts the Cypress Plus 170 floor plan, with other major additions, such as the interior accessible rooftop tent (more about it later). As usual, I'll start the tour with the exterior features.

You'll notice the rig is finished all around in Selenite Gray paint. It rides on Black Rhino rims wrapped in BFGoodrich all-terrain tires. Moreover, ActiVan added VanSpeed capsules, each with a slide-screen window, on both sides of the vehicle to increase the width of the bedroom. At the rear, you'll discover an Owl Vans ladder/spare tire carrier.

Step inside, and you'll be greeted by a superb black-white-and-grey living space that looks and feels straight up out of a modern apartment. This van's customers opted for a grey ceiling made from stained pine slats, white cabinetry paired with grey countertops, white shiplap walls, and numerous black details, including the chairs, cabinet handles, and more.

The customer also kept the layout open, meaning the driver's cabin isn't separated from the rest of the interior. Instead, a large curtain can be used for more privacy and to block off light.

As you enter, you'll have a captain's chair right in front of you, with an additional one near the driver's side wall. They're both part of the seating area where the family will spend most of its time: the seating area. Moreover, the driver's and passenger's seats can be swiveled. Other notable features are a table mount in the middle of these four chairs, a long window, and a sizeable overhead cabinet.

The first sleeping spot I'd like to talk about is the SCA 252 rooftop tent for RRE, which stands for Rough Road Equipment. It's made from durable reinforced glass fiber, is fiber-lined with plush upholstery for maximum comfort, and boasts flame-retardant material. What's more, it's four-season ready and soundproofed against road noise.

The tent can accommodate even tall people, as it comes with a mattress that's 2 meters (almost 79 inches) long and 1.2 meters (47 inches) wide. You'll also find three windows.

To climb inside the rooftop tent, you'll have to remove the table, extend a telescoping ladder, and go through the large opening in the ceiling. When the tent is lowered, a Maxxair fan will help ventilate the area.

Next, we have the kitchen located on the passenger side of the interior. It features a massive, deep sink, a ton of counter space, a small fridge/freezer, and an overhead microwave. What's more, this customer didn't choose to have ActiVan's standard built-in induction stove.

There's plenty of storage space available here in the kitchen. You'll notice many drawers and cabinets, including an overhead one). Furthermore, the cabinet holding the microwave also integrates the rig's control panel. It consists of an inverter controller, gauges for the water tanks, a battery monitor, as well as various switches for the light and more.

ActiVan devised a wet bathroom opposite the kitchen. I'm fond of its aesthetic, with powder-coated aluminum walls and a teak shower mat. It also boasts a shower and a Thetford cassette toilet.

A floor-to-ceiling unit between the bathroom and the bedroom has two huge closet spaces for clothes storage.

ActiVan installed VanSpeed Capsules to mount the bed from side to side. This, in turn, empties 20 inches (51 centimeters) of room, which lets the builders use that space to create a longer countertop.

Finally, the bedroom occupies the rear part of this van's interior. It features a queen-size bed with a 5-inch memory foam mattress, a swivel-mounted 24-inch TV, two overhead cabinets, and a Nomadic Cooling A/C.

Like in many other camper van conversions, the bed was positioned higher up to leave room for a garage underneath. That's where the utility systems are housed.

The plumbing system is on the left, comprising a 42-gallon (159-liter) freshwater tank. I'm surprised ActiVan didn't add an outdoor shower, but maybe the customer didn't want one. The other side holds the electrical system - its highlights are an inverter and 300 Ah batteries.

Overall, a family of four can enjoy safe and comfortable adventures in Activan's rig, even off-road and off-grid. Unfortunately, ActiVan doesn't share information regarding the prices of the camper vans it builds. Based on Activan's rigs currently for sale, I'd say this one is priced close to $200,000 or maybe a bit lower.
